As well as classroom music, MPPS offers students the opportunity to be involved in the MVIMP program. This has been offered at the school for over 30 years, with great success and high levels of student participation. It is a joint program between Moonee Ponds Primary, Moonee Ponds West, Ascot Vale & Ascot Vale West Primary Schools. Music instrumental lessons are offered to students from years 3-6. Music tutors are shared between the four schools and students have weekly lessons during school hours.
Instruments on offer include:
Violin, Flute, Trumpet, Percussion, Cello, Clarinet, Trombone, Bass Guitar, Euphonium, Saxophone and French Horn.
Every year students in year five and six from the program are given an opportunity to attend a music camp with students from the other three schools. The camp allows for intensive workshopping and concert band and ensemble development.
The program sees the four schools combine for an annual MVIMP concert. Joint rehearsals for the concerts bands and ensembles are conducted under tutor supervision and direction.
MPPS Concert Band
Students in the program also perform as the Moonee Ponds Primary School Concert Band at school events and celebrations.
